| A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is a voluntary check of vessel compliance with all federal and state laws, which includes a courtesy check of safety equipment carried or installed on a boat as well as certain aspects of a boat's general condition. Except for certain state-specific requirements, a VSC is uniform in its standards throughout the country. A Coast Guard Auxiliary VSC is performed by a trained, qualified, Vessel Examiner who has been certified by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
