Flotilla 33 Public Education Schedule - 2010

 

 

About Boating Safely (ABS) is basic boating course designed to appeal to casual and experienced boaters alike.  The course is sponsored by the staff of Certified Instructors from U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-3 and is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), and recognized by the U.S. Coast Guard. ABS meets the boat operation requirements and mandatory PWC education requirements for operation on New York State waterways. Additionally, many insurance companies will offer discounts on boat insurance to individuals who successfully complete this course. Individuals who successfully complete the course and exam are awarded certificates and cards.

The SAILING SKILLS AND SEAMANSHIP COURSE

10 weeks each Wednesday, April 28 to June 30, 2010

6:30-9:30 PM at The West Side Rowing Club

Foot of Porter Avenue, Buffalo

.

The course will be taught by US Coast Guard Auxiliary qualified instructors and includes these subject areas:

Part 1: About Sailboats ● How a Boat Sails ● Basic Sailboat Maneuvering ● Rigging and Boat Handling ● Equipment for Your Boat ● Trailering Your Sailboat ● Aids to Navigation ● The Rules of the Nautical Road ● Inland Boating ● Sailing Safety

Part 2: Sail Trim and Boat Handling ● Introduction to Navigation ● Engines for Sailboats ● Lines and Knots for Your Boat ● Weather and Sailing ● Your Boat’s Radio

Course Fee: $85 Including the 454 page Sailing Skills and Seamanship course book
